The tool aims to stay at or below your selected target while preserving as much visual quality as practical.
Auto keeps JPG and WebP in their original format. PNG images may use WebP when that gives a better chance of reaching the requested target while keeping transparency support.
Allow dimension reduction if needed First tries quality compression. If the target is still too small, the tool can gradually reduce image dimensions to get closer to the requested file size.

Popular image compression targets

Compress image to 20KB or 50KB Online Useful for very strict upload limits. Small targets may require noticeable quality or dimension reduction.
Compress image to 100KB Online A common target for forms, profile photos and services with tight file-size restrictions.
Compress image to 200KB Online Often provides a practical balance between smaller files and retained image quality.
Compress image to 500KB or 1MB Online Useful for reducing large phone or camera images without aiming for extremely small output files.

How Image Compression to a Target File Size Works

JPG and WebP images can usually be compressed by reducing encoding quality. If that is not enough and dimension reduction is allowed, the tool can gradually reduce image dimensions to get closer to your selected KB or MB target. PNG is lossless, so very small targets may require dimension reduction or a different output format.

The requested target is a goal rather than a promise. Some images cannot reach an extremely small file size without severe visual loss. When that happens, the tool reports the result honestly instead of pretending the target was achieved.
